Continuing with our health focus we were delighted to get some funding to run a series of health and wellbeing events for our beneficiaries in Middleton. With support from UK online centres, the health events at the Groundwork Wood Street office aim to help people access health services both locally and online, in a fun and friendly environment.
A big thank you to everyone who came to Wood Street on Friday 12th September to support our first health event. The day included free Reiki sessions, relaxation sessions, info about local health services in the area, help with accessing online health services, free supplements, food and much more! We had 50 visitors and 8 partner organisations including Health Trainers, Rochdale Libraries (Books on Prescription ), Rochdale and District Mind, Angie Parr (Reiki), Bobby Greenwood (It’s a Goal) and Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust (Talking Therapies).
I was keen that all visitors were made welcome, encouraged to take part in the activities on offer and meet with the local partners. From the feedback given it was not only useful but a really enjoyable event. Visitors commented that they had found out something they didn’t know before and experienced something new.
I want to particularly thank Groundwork staff member Aysha Ghafoor, who took time out of her day off to deliver some relaxation taster sessions, which were a clear favourite amongst everyone who attended. Thanks to the Radcliffe Prince’s Trust team who volunteered to support visitors on the computer, along with Groundwork’s awesome Skills for Jobs volunteers. Groundwork staff members Debra, Jane and Jill also got involved and had a go at everything.
If you couldn’t make the first event, don’t worry! There’s another on Wednesday 15th October, so we hope to see you then. The focus will be on healthy eating and exercise so there will be more delicious treats, freebies and a Zumba taster session.
