July update from Teresa

TeresaAs the Operations Director my role is to ensure that our business plan is delivered – whilst keeping my antenna out for new business development opportunities to further grow the programmes we deliver that help to change places and change lives.

This month we have been in discussions with Derek O’Toole and his team at Hopwood Hall College and Jill Nagy the CEO at Rochdale Training about the accredited training provision we will be delivering during the next academic year. This will continue to be a really important part of the Groundwork provision to up skill 16-25 years olds so they can go on to get jobs or progress into further training.

I have been in discussions with partners in Bolton and Bury about replicating our award winning Housing Refurbishment scheme in these two Boroughs. I have met with Dominic Conway from Bolton at Home and we are also receiving a delegation from Bury on the 24th of July. Sharon Hanbury from Bury Council and Andrew Upton from Six Town Housing are coming over to Rochdale to see what we are doing. I am really pleased to see the level of enthusiasm and support we have received from colleagues in both these boroughs and hope this leads to us expanding upon this programme and helping more long term unemployed people back into work whilst bringing empty homes back into use.

We have also had meetings with Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust this month too – we are looking at how we can collaborate with them around health and wellbeing agenda. Damian Aston and Val Little met myself and Vicki our Executive Director and I have also been out to see their Digging for Health project in Oldham.

Looking forward in August we welcome Linda Fisher the interim CEO of Rochdale Borough Council and also the Chair John Schofield and the CEO Michael McCourt of Pennine Care who are going to be spending time with us to see some of our work in action.

Beyond that we are already thinking about our business planning programme for 2015/16 and that planning process will start with staff in September – it always surprises me how quickly this comes around!

To all those going away on holiday or having a break in sunny UK over the next month, have a great time.
